Eat Stop Eat Diet For Weight Loss

The Eat Stop Eat diet is designed to help you reduce body fat using a sustainable meal timing philosophy. Unlike most conventional diets you won’t have to avoid all your favorite foods. Pasta, bread, rice, and most desserts are allowed on the diet.

So if you’ve tried Atkins, or other no carb diets, and were miserable without carbs Eat Stop Eat might be a better fit for your lifestyle.

How The Eat Stop Eat Diet Works

Eat Stop Eat is, at it’s core, a one day per week diet. You only have to worry about calories, food content, and changing your normal daily routines once per week. As you get more advanced, and more used to the diet you can up the total to twice per week.

So how do you lose weight if you’re only on a diet once per week? The Eat Stop Eat diet follows an intermittent fasting philosophy to take advantage of physical changes your body makes during a short term fast.

Instead of using the usual method of reducing daily calories to lose weight, you instead rely on increased growth hormone secretion, increased insulin sensitivity, a higher metabolism and other changes your body makes during an intermittent fast.

How Intermittent Fasting Works

Intermittent fasting (IMF) uses meal timing, and meal structure to influence metabolic changes to increase lean body mass and reduce body fat. A good way to think of IMF is to separate your day into eating time frames and non-eating time frames.

Example Beginner Schedule:

8am – 8pm. This is your eating time frame. You consume all your daily calories during this time period, and avoid all calories when this time period has ended.

8pm – 8am (next day). This is your fasting time frame, where you avoid all calories and only drink water or other allowed drinks.

If you’ve never heard of this practice, I know it seems like a silly gimmick but it’s not. IMF is an extensively studied medical diet and what they found is there are very strong metabolic changes at the later stages of a daily fast that helps promote lean body mass.

How To Lose The Most Weight

To lose the most weight on the Eat Stop Eat diet, there are a couple of things you’ll want to do.

All forms of exercise are going to be helpful when trying to lose weight, but there is a definite and clear winner that should be at the top of your list.

If you only have an hour or two per week to exercise, skip the treadmill and focus on resistance training. Preserving or adding lean muscle mass has a greater influence on your metabolic rate and total calories burned compared to an hour of cardio.

In addition to the eat and do-not eat food lists included with the Eat Stop Eat diet you’ll want to limit as much of the following foods as possible:

  • High sugar foods
  • Processed foods
  • Refined grains
  • Alcohol
  • Juice
  • Soda
