So this is a little gross, but it’s truly one of the best calorie cutting tricks. You don’t have to do this everyday, but if you think you ate a few too many calories the day before you can make up some ground by drinking black coffee the following morning.
Just the coffee. No creamer. No sugar.
Take small sips over an hour, chugging it may cause vomiting and stuff. Black coffee, with nothing added, has the power to kill your appetite for several hours and give you a bit of a metabolism boost with the caffeine.
The Before Dinner Meal
This seems impractical, but it works. There are going to be days, and events for work or family that have the potential to devastate your diet plan. One really bad day, gorging at a table of tacos and potato salad can wipe away weeks of dieting.
If you’re heading off to an event, where you know there will be piles and piles of delicious food you shouldn’t be eating — eat before you get there. A large bowl of vegetables is the best option.

Use Smaller Plates
This seems so silly, but it’s been scientifically proven to be true. Our perception of the amount of food on our plate influences the amount we eat. When you use a large plate, the amount of food on it appears smaller.
This leads to cleaning the entire plate, and even wanting more because the portion “appeared” small to you. When you use a small plate, the amount of food on it appears greater because it takes up more surface area.
Training Partner. If you know someone is counting on you to drag yourself to the gym it increases motivation by 237%. Okay, I made that number up, but it does improve accountability because you aren’t just letting yourself down. You’d also be letting your friend down by skipping a workout. This buddy system is essential to long term weight loss goals and can make exercising more fun.
Write It Down. There’s an app for everything with tons of weight loss and calorie tracking programs for you to use. In my experience, apps make the process of tracking your calories easier to complete, but also makes it easier to avoid.
People just stop opening the app. It’s out of sight and out of mind. When you start using a written journal, and keep it open on your desk or nightstand it stares you in the face everyday. It makes the habit easier to enforce, because it’s harder to avoid.
